Capacitors, also known as electrolytic capacitors, are a type of electrical component that is found both in electronic circuits and also in industrial machines. They are made from a combination of two substances, which are the anode and the cathode, which are both electrically conductive. Anode materials include lead, copper, silica and iron alloys. The anode is usually an important ingredient in the construction of a capacitor, as it allows ions to be neutralized for the purpose of making an electrical field that will push against the ions of the electrolytic layer, which in turn push against the anode and create a small amount of current.

The voltage that they are able to handle ranges widely, depending on the materials that they are made of and the ventilation conditions that are present. They can even handle up to one thousand volts, although the largest ones can easily exceed this mark, some even going higher.
High voltage capacitors come in a variety of shapes and sizes and depending on how they are constructed, their maximum power rating can differ greatly. Some are designed to be one thousand volts in output while others can work in excess of twenty thousand volts. The larger ones can power larger machines such as industrial vacuum cleaners or lawnmowers, as well as cars and trucks. Smaller machines, such as toys, are often designed to operate at about fifty volts.
